- ➤ A paralyzed Navy veteran, Robert Ballard, and his family moved into a 2,900-square-foot specially adapted home in Chesapeake on Wednesday built by the Gary Sinise Foundation through its R.I.S.E. Program—designed with smart technology to help him adjust after a helicopter crash in January 2021. 13 News Now
- ➤ Chesapeake opened a new Fire Station 8 on Shipyard Road — replacing the old station on George Washington Highway. The 17,000-square-foot building has four apparatus bays — and a training pond to help firefighters respond quickly in the growing Deep Creek area. 13 News Now

- ➤ A government shutdown has furloughed nearly two-thirds of National Park Service workers—impacting key Hampton Roads sites like Fort Monroe, Historic Jamestowne, and Colonial National Historical Park. Some areas remain open, but tours and programs have been cancelled until funding is restored. 13 News Now
