Good morning, Chesapeake.

A cement truck overturned on Interstate 64 near Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake Thursday morning, blocking three lanes with spilled debris—troopers confirmed that no one was injured and two lanes had reopened by 9 a.m.

The Hampton Roads Sanitation District is using a $1.18 million DEQ award to encourage residents to switch from septic tanks to public sewer connections by offering up to $5,000—along with a waiver of the $2,500 connection fee—to reduce nutrient pollution in the Chesapeake Bay.

The program will help lower algae blooms and cut maintenance costs, aiming to protect the Bay for future generations.

City officials said Volvo Parkway was closed in both directions between Vellen Street and Bishopstoke Drive on Friday morning after a sewer main failed.

Traffic was rerouted—drivers should use alternate routes as there is no set time for reopening.

The Virginia Department of Health announced that free back-to-school vaccinations are available at health department locations for students, who must bring a valid ID—an immunization record and an insurance card if available.

Virginia law now requires student-athletes to complete an updated six-page pre-participation physical exam form with checks for joint, bone, heart & mental health before sports begin.

The form is valid for 14 months at public middle and high schools while private schools must use different forms per state law.
