Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 3rd of July.
Good morning, Chesapeake.
🏘️ Community
Chesapeake readies Fourth of July events amid extreme heat as safety measures are set in place, with the Celebrate Freedom Concert & Fireworks Spectacular slated for today at City Park and the South Norfolk Parade & Picnic scheduled for Saturday at Lakeside Park while cooling centers operate on both days.
🌲 Environment
A stock assessment released in early June shows the Chesapeake Bay blue crab population is in long-term decline, with roughly 50% fewer crabs than in 2011 due to predation + habitat loss and low-oxygen zones.
Officials will use the study findings to adjust fisheries management plans next year.
