- ➤ Firefighters responded to a house fire at a Deep Creek home on the 2700 block of George Drive just before 9 p.m. and had the blaze under control by 9:27 p.m.—one person was displaced even though all residents evacuated safely while investigators work to determine the cause. 13 News Now

- ➤ A study by the Virginia Peninsula Regional Homelessness Study finds that many people on the Peninsula become homeless because there is not enough affordable housing and that substance abuse and unemployment add to the crisis. Newport News leaders will meet with local areas to discuss strategies and report their plans within 90 days—efforts that may bring new affordable housing options. 3 WTKR
