- ➤ Firefighters responded to a house fire at a Deep Creek home on the 2700 block of George Drive just before 9 p.m. and had the blaze under control by 9:27 p.m.—one person was displaced even though all residents evacuated safely while investigators work to determine the cause. 13 News Now

- ➤ A study by the Virginia Peninsula Regional Homelessness Study finds that many people on the Peninsula become homeless because there is not enough affordable housing and that substance abuse and unemployment add to the crisis. Newport News leaders will meet with local areas to discuss strategies and report their plans within 90 days—efforts that may bring new affordable housing options. 3 WTKR

- ➤ On Wednesday, a heat wave swept Hampton Roads as parked cars heated up dangerously fast — experts warned that car temperatures could rise 20 degrees in 10 minutes, risking deadly conditions for children and pets; AAA Tidewater’s Holly Dalby said drivers must never leave them behind and should call 911 if anyone shows distress. 13 News Now
