Roosevelt Memorial Park in Chesapeake has faced growing criticism from local families and city officials for poor upkeep and mistakes in grave plots, and a $3 million lawsuit has been filed alleging fraud and negligence.
Delegate Cliff Hayes, whose family is buried there, said he has heard many similar complaints and attorney Kevin Biniazan expects the trial to be set before the end of 2026 — families hope for a proper resolution soon.

Hotrodders Café in Chesapeake opened in 2012 and serves breakfast favorites and diner classics in a red and black space filled with classic car photos—honoring the vision of owner Amber Hooker’s late father.

Harborfest kicked off Friday on the Elizabeth River as the historic vessel AJ Meerwald and several other ships dazzled spectators—visitors can tour the vessels during the festival to learn about maritime history.
The nearly 100-year-old schooner sailed from New Jersey to share its rich heritage with local fans.
