Good morning, Chesapeake.

Greenbrier Farms partly closed its facilities due to rising restrictions and pressure from Chesapeake permitting, zoning and health departments—this led to a loss of public access to its playground, barnyard animals, walking grounds and scenic areas.

City officials and the Virginia Department of Health said the farm’s permit is still active and they are waiting for the owner to submit the needed paperwork.

House budget proposals may cut SNAP benefits and Medicaid that help many Chesapeake families, and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia said the changes could affect about 100,000 people—including 8,000 households in Chesapeake—and lead to longer wait times at local food banks.
