Good morning, Chesapeake.

Chesapeake police and NAACP representatives are working together to lower violence as summer nears — using a Violence Interrupters Program and the Blue Program to build trust with local residents.

Officials say the programs started in 2022 and continue to help the community share tips with trusted figures.

Brian Askew, an inmate held at Chesapeake Correctional Center from September 2022 until February, claims he was forced into more than two years of solitary confinement where he experienced hallucinations, physical harm, and a denial of basic privileges such as exercise and showers. The lawsuit—filed against current and former law enforcement officials including Sheriff David Rosado and former Sheriff James O’Sullivan—alleges that his constitutional rights were repeatedly violated despite recommendations from medical staff.
