Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 24th of April.
Good morning, Chesapeake.
City leaders and residents gathered on April 23 at 7 a.m. to celebrate the grand opening of Publix's new Chesapeake store at 1620 Cedar Road—spanning 48,387 square feet and employing about 140 associates.
This store expands Publix's local presence along with locations in Carrollton, Virginia Beach, Kill Devil Hills, Williamsburg and Suffolk.
Chesapeake police are searching for 15-year-old Nia Dameron, who was last seen April 4 at her home on the 700 block of Cardover Avenue at 1:30 a.m.—she is a black teen with long braids, a nose ring, and braces who lacks her prescribed medicine and is not in danger, and anyone with information should call 757-382-6161.
Chesapeake Public Schools filed its certification today to confirm it is not using DEI practices and to secure federal funding — other Hampton Roads districts are taking similar steps to meet the Virginia Department of Education’s deadline.
