EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Education Department sent a notice on Thursday that tells K-12 schools to sign a certification by April 13 showing they follow federal civil rights law and end DEI practices — a measure that could cut federal funds if not followed. Local school divisions are reviewing the notice as noncompliance may lead to losses in grants and contracts — including Title I funds. 13 News Now

- ➤ Drivers in Chesapeake saw longer bridge openings on Interstate 64 East when a part malfunction left the High Rise Bridge open for an hour on Friday afternoon. The Virginia Department of Transportation said crews will keep manually locking and unlocking the span until new parts arrive (expected in two to three weeks) and noted the bridge is safe to use. 13 News Now
