  • Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads dedicated a new three-bedroom, two-bath home in Chesapeake on March 27 to first-time homeowners Deandrea Staton and her daughter Daija, who were chosen among nearly 400 applicants after their previous neighborhood saw a rise in crime. The home was built over four months in South Norfolk and meets program requirements for stable employment, home ownership classes, and volunteer work + supported donations.  13 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Four US representatives from Hampton Roads discussed federal layoffs and tariffs during a Navy League luncheon in Virginia Beach Friday afternoon—raising concerns over indiscriminate government cuts and unpredictable tariffs that affect local workers. HEALTH NEWS

  • A Chesapeake woman was bitten by a cat that tested positive for rabies on March 17 after she rescued it from beneath a shed on River Pearl Way, and she is now receiving medical care—this marks the third rabies exposure in the city this month.  3 WTKR
