  • Keisha Sedlacek, federal director for Chesapeake Bay Foundation, warned that invasive blue catfish have been harming native species like oysters and blue crabs by eating nearly everything in their path—lawmakers plan to speed up the USDA inspection process so that fishermen can bring the fish to market faster. The Chesapeake Bay Conservation Acceleration Act has bipartisan support from local senators and representatives and aims to better protect the Bay's delicate ecosystem.  13 News Now
  • Federal layoffs and potential 50% staffing cuts at HUD may reduce funding for over $21 million in affordable housing programs, which support services in Chesapeake and across Hampton Roads.
