CULTURE NEWS

  • The Chesapeake Central Library hosts an exhibit titled A Hundred Quilts for 100 Years of Black Resilience: The Underground Railroad and Beyond that shows handcrafted quilts telling Black History and Underground Railroad stories. The African American Sewcial Threaders Guild created the display to share cultural heritage with community members.  3 WTKR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is studying wildlife harm after HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding spilled 4,722 gallons of jet fuel into the James River last Friday. Local and federal agencies are working to clean up the fuel (hundreds of gallons have been removed) as residents remain concerned over potential toxic effects.  13 News Now
  • Deleg. Alex Askew introduced House Bill 390 that passed the House to form a 10-member Habitat Policy Oversight Committee — the panel will review marine and coastal resilience policies as sea levels keep rising, and the bill now moves to the Senate Agriculture committee.  3 WTKR
