ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two adults and a dog were displaced Tuesday afternoon after a house fire on Vail Court in Chesapeake’s Greenbrier area, and firefighters extinguished the flames before they spread + officials said the cause is under investigation.  13 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hampton native Andre Chez Lewis earned a Grammy as pianist and organist on the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir’s gospel album, which won Best Roots Gospel Album this past weekend. He said the win made him reflect on his journey—beginning in local church music.  13 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Old Dominion University is launching the Joan P. Brock Institute for Nutrition Science and Health with a $15M gift to expand nutrition education and research—an official launch event will be held on March 10 while new facilities are expected by summer. The initiative aims to address local chronic disease challenges by training future health providers.  13 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The $60 million Deep Creek Bridge project is delayed by winter weather, pushing the traffic shift to mid-March to April as crews work to replace the nearly century-old bridge with a new five-lane structure.  3 WTKR
  • NASA Langley scientists in Hampton are finalizing tests for Artemis II after a hydrogen leak during pre-launch tests on Feb. 1–2. Their work helps plan future missions, including Artemis III.  3 WTKR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Virginia health officials reported that influenza-related emergency room visits numbered about 2,300 last week and have dropped slightly for the third week in a row + COVID-19 and RSV cases remain low in both the region and Hampton Roads while nearly 31% of residents have received their flu shot.  13 News Now

  • Local restaurant The Stockpot in Chesapeake will host a Valentine's Day Charcuterie Night—tickets cost $65 and include a charcuterie board, two drinks, and a dessert.
