Chesapeake schools will seek a new superintendent when Jared Cotton retires on July 1 after eight years of service.
The board is gathering input (survey available until Jan. 28) and holding a meeting on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the School Administration Building, with applications opening Feb. 12.

Portsmouth City Council on Tuesday approved a permit for nearly 500 new homes near Rivers Casino, and construction has begun on a mixed-use development off Battlefield Boulevard in Chesapeake with 215 apartments — including 20,000 sqft of commercial space.
